A new Silk Road route is now connecting the Chinese city of Chonqing with Melzo (Milan), in Italy.
The train trips are currently scheduled to leave China every Saturday and, in the next months, there will be trips on Wednesdays as well. This new project, with its reduced transit time, represents a valid alternative to sea shipping.
The first train is underway
The first train departed on 9 July. After stopping at various Chinese terminals, the train will reach the hub in Melzo (Milan) and then will head towards Verona. The journey will take 22 days to complete.
The train is carrying over 10 million euros worth of goods, which include clothing, household appliances, and daily necessities, according to one reliable source.
It is still unclear which services the route will use. RailFreight.com is still waiting on further information from the companies involved.
