The Verdi union is looking on northern German dockers to go on warning strikes on Thursday – regardless of tense supply chains and the already present ship jam on the North Sea. The 12,000 staff of the 58 port corporations had been referred to as actions lasting a number of hours through the late shift, Verdi introduced on Wednesday.

“Colleagues have reached the breaking level, typically nicely past that,” stated the union’s negotiator in the present spherical of collective bargaining. She pointed to the essential significance of port staff for the functioning of supply chains.

The German seaport corporations are referred to as on Verdi to chorus from strikes. That might be “completely irresponsible,” says the negotiator for the Central Port Affiliation ZDS: “We’re in the center of a completely distinctive state of affairs. The worldwide supply chains are severely disrupted,” she warns: “A big wave of delayed ships is approaching us from one aspect, and on the opposite, there are main bottlenecks in rail freight site visitors.”

The subsequent spherical of negotiations between employers and the union is scheduled for Friday. For days there was a hypothesis on the coast that the primary port strikes since 1978 may happen this 12 months.

According to Logfret Germany, they are already facing a major delay in schedules (even without the strike) due to massive traffic jams of big vessels in front of Hamburg and Bremerhaven which is also creating a great impact on all neighbouring countries. And not forgetting that all other ports in Europe are also congested and delayed as well. With the strike on 9th June 2022, it will increase the operational problems, affecting all other European ports again in DE, NL, BE, F, UK, PL, etc. by causing more delays and schedule changes.
