A nationwide strike in the airport transportation industry has been scheduled to begin on Friday, February 9, 2024 onwards.
Unionized ground staff workers to strike at Linate and Malpensa airports, Milan, Italy.
The strike has been confirmed by the Union Sindacale di Base (USB) and Federazione Lavoratori Autonomi Italiani (FLAI). This industrial action will affect airport ground services and operations managed by the cargo handling agent MLE in the cargo division of Malpensa Airport.
Handler MLE oversees a workforce exceeding 500 individuals and manages nearly half of the cargo operations at Malpensa Airport.
Last Friday and Saturday, the strikers obstructed truck access to the cargo area. Starting today, they will strictly adhere to the strike, refusing to handle any cargo. This will continue until the union convenes with government authorities and reaches an agreement.
Delays at airports, flight cancellations, and disruptions are anticipated to affect services in the coming hours as authorities work to address the backlog. Throughout the day, there may be gatherings of striking workers near airports.
Significant disruptions and delays in shipments are anticipated!
