Jeddah Islamic Port achieved its largest container throughput in a single month in June, handling 473,676 TEUs, which is a 16% increase over the same month in 2022.
Major shipping lines added Jeddah to eight cargo services in the first six months of the year, offering maritime connections to 260 ports across the Middle East, Europe, Africa, the Americas, and the Indian Subcontinent, as well as contributing to an increased volume of trade and investments into the country.
“The operational accomplishment involves large-scale growth strategies executed by the Saudi Ports Authority to improve and broaden the Red Sea hub, including a nine-billion-riyal concession with DP World to upgrade capacity at the South Container Terminal to 13 million TEUs, in line with the Saudi Ports Authority’s long-term objectives of positioning Jeddah as a top ten port and meeting the goals of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS),” said the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) in a statement.
