Short-notice industrial action could limit cargo capacity and impact shipments through the Frankfurt hub.

Air freight operations may experience temporary disruption following a short-notice strike announced by the pilots’ union representing cockpit crews at Lufthansa Cargo, Lufthansa, and Lufthansa CityLine. The strike is scheduled to take place over two days, from 12 March to 13 March, and could potentially affect both passenger and cargo operations across the Lufthansa Group network.

According to the airline, the strike may lead to limited cargo capacity depending on the level of pilot participation and potential flight cancellations. Lufthansa Cargo has indicated that all freighter flights scheduled to arrive in Frankfurt on 12 March are currently expected to operate as planned, although operational conditions may evolve as the situation develops.

Several Lufthansa Cargo freighter services are currently planned to operate during the strike period. For 12 March, the following flights remain scheduled:

  • LH 8022 – Frankfurt to Mumbai
  • LH 8048 – Frankfurt to Brussels to Chicago
  • LH 8052 – Frankfurt to New York (JFK)
  • LH 8014 – Frankfurt to Taipei

For 13 March, the following freighter flights are currently planned:

  • LH 8294 – Frankfurt to Cairo
  • LH 8020 – Frankfurt to Singapore
  • LH 8342 – Frankfurt to Larnaca to Athens
  • LH 8056 – Frankfurt to Atlanta
  • LH 8066 – Frankfurt to Dallas to Houston
  • LH 8078 – Frankfurt to Los Angeles
  • LH 8050 – Frankfurt to New York (JFK)
  • LH 8030 – Frankfurt to Tashkent to Hong Kong
  • LH 8346 – Frankfurt to Istanbul
  • LH 8324 – Frankfurt to Stockholm to Helsinki
  • LH 8320 – Frankfurt to Birmingham to Dublin

The airline has indicated that further flight schedule confirmations will be communicated as the situation develops. Operational teams are working to maintain stable services where possible and minimise disruption to customers relying on the airline’s global cargo network.

If the strike results in reduced flight operations, air freight capacity through the Frankfurt hub could become temporarily constrained. Shippers may encounter limited cargo space, schedule adjustments, or longer transit times for time-sensitive shipments. Exporters relying on European air cargo gateways could face delays, while importers may experience disruptions to inbound cargo flows. Businesses are advised to monitor shipment schedules closely and plan with additional flexibility during the strike period as operational conditions continue to evolve.
