After the expiration of the 90-day pause, specific countries will face new tariffs unless trade deals are reached.

As the expiration of the U.S. President’s 90-day tariff pause approaches on July 9, the U.S. is preparing to impose tariffs ranging from 10% to 70% on imports from certain countries, starting August 1. Letters outlining specific tariff rates will be sent to individual trading partners who have not finalized a deal with the U.S. prior to the deadline. The focus is on 18 key trading relationships, with the U.S. signaling that countries failing to reach agreements will revert to the tariffs initially proposed in April.

The announcement marks a critical point in the ongoing tariff negotiations. Countries that fail to strike deals by the deadline face a return to the original rates outlined earlier this year. While it is unclear if there will be room for further negotiations after the deadline, the U.S. has made it clear that August 1 will see the implementation of these new rates.

So far, the U.S. has reached agreements with several countries, including Vietnam, where a 20% tariff on imports will be enforced. Deals with China and the U.K. are also part of the evolving framework. The U.S. administration remains focused on reaching agreements with additional trading partners to ensure the smooth implementation of its global tariff strategy.
